In the War of 1812 the United States skirmished with Great Britain along the East Cost and near the Great Lakes, resulting in 13,000 US deaths, and the burning of the White House!
The Treaty of Ghent which ended the war settled nothing. Prewar conditions were reinstated, the British policy of impressment was not addressed and the territories of Canada and Florida that the United States wanted so badly remained foreign land.
Was this war neccessary? Why or why not?
this war was not necessary for many reasons. The first reason is because all you did was wast money on food and ammo. you could of spent it on something us full. and it solved NOTHING!!!!! this is a huge wast of time. just crazy thats all i have to say! :)
ReplyDeletei think the war was a necasary thing............ i know i am totally againt war but let me just say this proved a lot! we are a strong united governement and this war proved we wont back down............. yes we tied but we didnt loose, it taught us all a lesson and was important to our country. I think it also strengtened our morale and gave us a boost of hope for the new country!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteyes the war was neccesary.the war was neccessary because we neede to prove that our govermant was not weak it was strong.
ReplyDeleteThis war settled nothing, because both sides didn't achieve anything. Both sides wanted the canada and florida land to be theres. But knowone got it.
ReplyDeletei think the war was not neccessary because nothing was acomplished for any one. britain didnt gain anything and the U.S. didnt gain anything either so thtt way the war was not neccessary.
ReplyDeleteyes it was worth it only because if the war continued more people would have died and soon we may have loss the war and america could have fallen
ReplyDeleteyes agree but we lost 13000 man for nothing and now the british got a positive out look on it.
DeleteI understand where you're coming from, however, what would you say if the war never started? I do agree that if the war kept going America would have fallen.
DeleteI agree with you, but i dont think that if we lost the war, America would have fallen. We've lost many wars and we're still here, but you are right other then that. The war could have got bigger, more people could have died, and we might even have the right of ruling ourselves.
Deletei agree. the unites stats wouldve fallen. for the war hawks they want to kill people so bad fight for areason.
Deletei agree with your answer but i dont think that America would have fallen if we lost because we have lost many wars before and we did not "fall". we have had more deaths that that and we did not fall. i agree with your answer mostly but not the whole way.
Deleteno i do not think ut was nessary. a lot of people died over no solution to any of it.the british won the war because 13000 us troops died over nothing.that is why i think the war is not nessary.
ReplyDeleteI dont think it was worth it because the treaty of ghent did not even settle anything. I think it wasnt woth it because we didnt have to do anyhting with the treaty of ghent.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think that this war was neccessary. This war was neccessary because it shows other countries that we arent a force to reckon with. It also showed the British that we wanted peace during trade, and if not and the rules were disobeyed, a war would break out. It shows that if we fight WE WILL WIN AT ALL COSTS. If we lose, expect another war. If we left it be and stood down we would get stomped on and we could/might loose everything we had/have. When it got to the point when the white house was destroyed, we decided not to tolerate any unneccessary war anymore. We fought Britain once, we can surely do it again, and not have another war for a while. Therefore this war was totally neccessary.
ReplyDeletei dont agree about starting the war. we already showed every body that we can beat them. why should we prove it again. we lost a lot of people for no reason. they shouldve lost there lives by fights to keep the country alive. thats why it was a waist of money and a waist of soldiers.
ReplyDeleteNo I do not think the war was worth it. The only thing it did was put us into more debt. If anything we would have been better off without the war. The citizens may have thought the war was neccessary at the time, however, America did not gain anything. Isn't the object of war to win something? If we did fight until we won it would take years. I think the treaty of Ghent was a waist of paper becasue nobody got anything given or taken from them. The war of 1812 was definately not worth it.
ReplyDeleteyes, i think that this war was neccessary because it "tells" other countries that we are powerful enough to go to war with countries. it also shows that if they go to war with us we will try our hardest to win and/ or win because of how powerful we are. This war shows that if other countries try to fight us we will fight back. This war was also neccessary because it is our second (2nd) time fighting the "great and mighty" Great Britain as a small new country. it was also neccessary to go to war with Britain because is shows other countries that we will fight so you dont mess with us when we are trading. this war was neccessary for our "little" country to have the freedom it deserves.
