Blog #2- Due Monday, December 10th
When Europeans decided to start settling in the New World they were taking a huge risk. They were going places where no one (Europeans) had lived before. They had to build their own houses and towns, gather their own food, create their own government and laws for the colony, and protect themselves from attack (and that was only if you survived the difficult voyage across the sea!!).
With all of these obstacles, why did people decide to leave their homes to come settle in the New World?
If you were going to lead a group of settlers to the New World, what supplies would you bring with you? How would you run your colony- what type of government would you have? Who would run the government? Who would make the laws? What types of laws would you have? Who would be allowed to live in your colony?

ReplyDeleteif i could bring things to my colony i would bring people who know how to cook. they would need to bring their resourses. i would have a big wall to stop eniemies wouldnt attact me. i would have people who can fight and people who can make armor. i would also have a deep full well of water. i would let people practice their own religion but wen i say u need to help fight. i would be the king.i would have adults make the laws. i would let any one other than lazy people kids.

DeleteIf I were to start a colony in a "New World" I would bring; water, food, shampoo, conditioner, a carpenter, a construction worker, mascara, a razor, toilet paper, a gun or weapon, a GPS, clothes, supplies to make a house/shelter, hair ties, bobby pins, smart people, good friends, deodorant, tooth brush, tooth paste, a map, a compass, my phone, my IPod, a communication device and some good board games to play while I’m on my way overseas…unless I’m aloud to bring a jet/air plane.

ReplyDeleteThe Native Americans left their home and came here for only one reason. They came here to find a new source of labor. They needed a new source of labor because the Native American population was decreasing, because the disease… the disease was small pox. But if was going to lead a group of settlers to the New World I would bring a lot of supplies. Because you never know how long you’re going to be doing this travel. For example, I would bring at least a years’ worth of food. When people have been traveling for a long period of time, they’re going to be hungry. Also I would bring bows and arrows, because if you do run out of food you can kill the animals, and eat them. That’s usually what you would need to survive.
At the beginning did you mean the explorers?

i think you are kinda right, but i think it would be a good idea to do what they did before, put the criminals on the border they would have to fight battles and protect the rest of the colony. also, not alowing people to come live in your colony based off of were their from is wrong, the whole reason there going to the new world is so they can have independance so what would be the point, it would be like another british country and they might start wars to try to get into this colony.

people would leave their homes to come to The New World because so they could buy, sell, trade, and they would come to the new world to not have a dificult life. if i was going to lead a group of settlers to the New World the supplies i would bring is water, food, money, tools, and weapons. I would run my own colony fare. The type of government i would have is a fare government. The people that will run the government will be me. The person that will make the laws will be me. The laws i would have is no stealing, no reshial coments, no murdering and no terists. The people i would alow to live in my colony is every body esept for muslums.

DeleteI agree with you as far as your answer to the first question goes but I also think the Church of England and the British made a lot of impact on religion for some people. That's why they wanted to go to the New world, they wanted freedom of religion, too.

people decided to leave the old world because they felt it was land and any cilazation just wanted more and more of annything that they could find. if i was alive during that time and i had to have a colony i would bring cattle,hourses,grains,cotton,wood,buckets,tools,seeds,corn,food,beds,and WATER duhhhhh its a necesity. i would run my colony buy letting anyone come and making an alliance with the natives. i would have a democracy and i would run my government my only law would be the ten comandments thgt jesus gave us

ReplyDelete(1). I would bring 1 more years worth of supply's so in case we have to fight for our right.If they take our food and supplys we would have more to last us a little bit longer so we can get back to British:)
(2). If we have any problems we will fence up any cracks and crevices so we cant get attacked unexpectedly.:)

i would run my government with a little slack but not to crazy. i would have it a free land and all but people would have to work to gain money and they would have to pay 5% of what they what they got in taxes. i would have a couple of buildings for the government branches to have one each. i would give people a small property and as i would fight for more i would sell more land. that is how i would run my colony
if i was travling to the new wold i would bring many things. i would bring lots and lots of water and food because if you would not bring either of the two you would either die of starvatoin or you would have to drink the discusting, dirty, filthy water in the oceaN OR SEA what ever your tavleing through. they were travleing to the new world for many reasons, 1 because they would be free, they would have many rights and their was gold mines and many other things.i would have thick tall trees lined up like a fence so intruders were not able to come in to steal or to fight us or even kill us. only the people that were kind and hard working to make the colony were alowed in my colony. i would run the colony becuase we all voted on the way from our old homes to our new that i was going to be the leader and the all said i would be a great leader. some laws that i would have for my colony would be are.......... The settlers going to the new world had many obstacles to face when they left great britain. they faced obstacles "back home" like no religous freedom and when the option came up for a chance to start over on thier own, they jumped at the oppertunity. the people that left were making a big and bold desicion that could have affected their whole life ahead of them.Although the settlers eventually lost the freedom, and were taken over once again after being Britains "puppets" to expand the British rule. The settlers left thier hoimes in search of a better life that mosrt likely wore off after a mediocre period of time. the british were again taking away their freedom by manipulating them into doing all the work for them. i belive the choice the settlers made was wise(not knowing the fowl play behind it.)

People moved to the " New World" for religious freedom. Also, so people could live free lives instead of being slaves or being forced to do only certain things their whole life.
ReplyDeleteIf I were to lead a group of settlers to the "New World" I would bring a tooth brush/paste, medicine, tons of water/food(meat), my phone, iPod, weapons, CLOTHES, grains, plants(seeds), hair brush, makeup, domesticated animals, rope, tools, paper, writing utensils, flash lights, lanterns, fire tools, razor, toilet paper, buckets, shower tools, hair clips, sailor, gps, crew, shelter, blankets, friends, construction worker,.... My government would be a democracy where everyone has a say. My government would be ran by the smartest most respectful people in my colony. My only laws would be the Ten Comandments that Jesus gave us and then some new laws if needed but I would have the final say. I would let anyone who was not threatening to my colony or trying to take it over.

Even though there were many obstacles people still settled in the New World. They did this for many reasons. Such as to have a better organized church, to hopefully find gold, and in search of a better life. if i were going to lead a group of settlers to the New World i would be extra prepared.

Also one respected and trusted person would have the final say. All the laws will be very reasonable and hpofully not too strict. All men, woman, and children will be allowed in the village. Slaves will not be allowed at all. Everyone shares responsibilities that is for a while.

ReplyDeleteEuropeans came to the new world for several reasons. First of all many people came to escape the lives they had in Europe and start new ones in the new world. Others came because they beleived that their country was unjust and came to the new world for religious freedom, different government, etc. Europeans beleived that the new world led to a better life.
ReplyDeleteIf i were to settle in the new world I would make a different settlement then those in Europe. I would bring a lot of maps, food, tools, and people. If I were to set up a government I would create various sections of my settlement and have each part govern itself with elected officials with one person that runs the whole of the settlement. The laws could be proposed by anyone and voted on by anyone. The laws in my settlement would be very basic and leanient, but the people would choose most laws. Anyone could live in my colony with equal rights until they break a law (or laws) in that case they will not have equal rights.

The Encomienda system would have been needed to get labor as well. People also wanted religious freedom from the British. Basically people came to the New World because they wanted to have a fresh start (Independence).

ReplyDeleteIf I were leading a group of settlers to the New World I would bring and do many things. First I would bring lots of fresh water because sea water will make you sick. Second I would bring wool for clothing, it may be itchy, but wool is good for warmth. Third I would weapons made by many Black Smith’s. Seeds and foods that won’t spoil (like bread). A democracy would be the type of government I would have because it would give a chance for everyone to have a say in the government. The elected person would run the government. A congress would be made to make the laws. The laws would be to treat others who have differences in religion respectfully, and to try to not change the law freedom of religion (laws based on religion and authority). Anyone can live in the colony as long as you except the rule of freedom of religion, too. The New World will be a pleasant place to live in.
