Election

Blog #4: Due Tuesday, November 6th
November 6, 2012 is election day.  Each candidate, President Obama and Mitt Romney, has very different viewpoints on many issues.  Look at each of the candidate's websites (posted below). Using the information from the websites, write down one issue that both candidates are talking about during this election

How are the candidates different in their points of view on the issues?

Are there any similarities in their points of view?

If you were able to vote, who would you choose, and why?  (You must give specific reasons- again, use the information from the candidates' websites).

DO NOT BASH EITHER CANDIDATE!!!  Instead, give specific reasons why one candidate will be better for the country over the other.  Also, while responding to your classmates, remember that while you do not have to agree with their opinions, you still must respect them.  You are free to disagree, just do so in a way that is respectful.

I agree too, but the way Mitt Romney takes troops out of the war might be different than how Obama might take the out of the war. Same with Obama his way might be different than Romney's way. What I mean by that is the way they bring troops home could effect us, by only bringing a few home at a time people might be angry or sad because if their family members didn't come home they know they are still at danger. By bringing all of them home we are more vunerable for attack and we lose the war we might not have as much freedom as we do now, or we might not have any at all.

  14. Personaly if I was able to vote, I would vote for Obama. So far in the last 4 years he has cleaned up what President Bush left behind (a broken country). Plus he dealt with the horrible and crule Osama Bin Laden. Both presedents say they will lower taxes, but then again, hasn't almost all the past presidents said they would lower taxes? Has it really ever worked out that way? There is a reason we have 3 branches of goverment. Meanning the idea still has to go through congress and other places. It isnt only up to Obama. It is what is best for the country. Besides everyone has a different veiws of things and opinions. It takes time to fix things and a good plan, otherwise you could easily end up back in the hole you started from. In other words, do everything correctly the first time around because there may only be a first time.

  15. Obama and Romney are kind of different. Obama wants to help the whole U.S.A., but Romney wants to help certain parts of the U.S.A. If I was allowed to vote, I would vote for Obama. The biggest reason is the race. (But not trying to be racist). Us African Americans have been trying to prove ourselves to the other race, and Obama is helping us. This whole time we’ve wanted equality and not just a quarter of equality. The other reason is the taxes and jobs. People have been struggling to keep their jobs because of budget cuts, and he might be able to help us with that. The last reason is because he wants to end the war and rebuild America. People have husbands, wives, mothers, and fathers in the war; I bet the biggest they want is for them to come home. Obama could be the best thing that has ever happened to us.

  16. Obama and Romney have in comeon is they both want to band guns. I vote for Obama because of what he did in the past for example he put America out of harms way by asainating osama binladon. Obama is responsibly ended the war in Iraq and will end the war in Afghanistan in 2014 and will use the money to rebiled America. Romney no disrespect but if u take are guns away how is the people of the U.S. PRTECT THEM SELVES

    ReplyDelete
  17. Obama and Romney both agree on taking guns away. I will vote for Obama because of the things that he did in the paste for example he took the U.S. out of harms way by assinating Osoma Binladone. Also Obama responsibly ended the war in Iraq and if he gets elected for president again he will end the war in Afghanistan in 2014 and then use the money that we arnt wasting in the war to rebuiled America. Romney with no disrespect you cant take guns away. I know that your religion is against guns but how is the people of the U.S. is supost to protect them self if there is a home invasion. Ya u can call the cops but by the time they get to the home invasion you can be dead and the theif can walk away with your items that the American people works so hard for.

  19. President Obama and Mitt Romney both are talking about college education this is the issue I choose to compare their viewpoints. I read many different subjects but this one seems to be important to me because I plan on going to college after high school.
The differences in their viewpoints are President Obama wants to continue to help students better afford a college education. President Obama ended billions in subsidies wasted on banks and used the savings to double investments in Pell Grants. He has a college tax credit for students and their families’ worth up to $10,000 over four years of college. Mitt Romney states Higher Education a new vision of affordable and applicable learning but does not provide any details. Mitt Romney states colleges are the heart of our nation’s higher education system and federal dollars is driving up tuition and burdening too many young Americans with substantial debt and too few opportunities. No details of what his plan is to ensure middle class and low income families can afford college for their children. He has no information listed on college grants or tax credits for students and their families.
There are some similarities in their viewpoints, they both state college is important and should be affordable to everyone in America.
If I was able to vote, I would you choose President Obama because he set a goal to lead the world in college graduates by 2020, and cut the growth of college tuition and fees in half over the next 10 years, a goal that will save the student thousands of dollars a year and that will affect me because I will graduate from high school in 2018.

    1. i agree because i also plan on going to collage after i graduate because i want a good job and i believe that romney will be able to do that because he is working hard to make the economy better which means collage might be more affordable and you would have a job when get out of collage.

  21. If I was allowed to vote I would vote for Mitt Romney. I would, because he understands how much we're in debt and wants to fix/help the most he can. For example big bird, he wants to cut PBS kids but for a good reason. He found out that if we cut that it would help out a lot with our debt. but Obama loves big bird and doesn't want to cut PBS.The country has so much debt that we have to cut back where we can.

  22. Romney is trying to do many things.
Romney is trying to create u.s. jobs. If elected he promotes bringing many jobs back to u.s. soil. He also says that he will utilize the Alaskan pipeline to supply the u.s. with the oil we need to make gasoline.

Both men want to lower taxes and create jobs. But each man has different ideas on reaching the same goal. Points of view are the same but its up to the voters to make a decision on which man can do it more effectively and efficient.
Obama and Romney have there diffrentsis and simalarities.

  24. ChickenWingGrbagePlateNovember 4, 2012 at 3:59 PM

I think Obama and Romney have both said things that are, and are not necesarily true, but they are the same and different in many ways. For example their points of view for different subjects are different. Like, their taxes point of view. Romney believes that taxes shape everything people and buisnesses do in the economy, Obama believes that people in the middle-class should not pay more in taxes then richer people. They also have different points of view for labor. Romney believes that ensuring U.S. labor laws will put buinesesses in a setting where they can operate, Obama believes that just promoting U.S. goods will make the country grow. There are not many similarities in their points of view that I have learned about, but I am sure there are some somewhere. If I where able to vote I would vote for Mitt Romney. I would vote for him because I believe that what his website says is manageable and can be done over a certain period of time like lowering taxes and making the payments more reasonable, or giving more jobs to jobless people.

  34. before i even read the websites on romney and obama i already had my decision made on mitt romney and the rest of the republican party. i chose mitt romney because obama has not really done a lot of good for our country. obama had 4 years to change our country for the better but i hasnt worked so why not let another person try at it. mitt romney has better ideas for how mannage taxes on his website it says " To repair the nation’s tax code, marginal rates must be brought down to stimulate entrepreneurship, job creation, and investment, while still raising the revenue needed to fund a smaller, smarter, simpler government." they both want to cut taxes but in different areas. Obamas website says "President Obama has put forward a specific, balanced plan of spending cuts and revenue increases that reduce the deficit by more than $4 trillion over the next decade, including $1 trillion in spending cuts he signed into law last summer as part of a deal with congressional Republicans. ." i think that both of the canidates have great ideas on taxes but i think mitt romney will be more agressive on the subject.

Romney says that he would rather focus on domestication energy saving power plants, but I completely disagree with that. Obama on the other hand says that he would rather focus on clean energy saving power plants, I think that that is a great idea. Global warming is one of the hugest problems we have in the world and we need to understand that. If humans don't start developing better and cleaner ways to make things like plastic, we are pretty much already dead. Obama is taking an action towards this and I am with him if he wins or not. Obama believes that he will re-create the economy if he makes the taxes for the rich higher than the poor. Both sides want to re-create the economy but Obama wants to increase taxes for the rich, and Romney wants to decrease it. 41. The two presidents,Obama and Romney have many similarities and differences.one difference is Romney wants to LOWER taxes for the middle-classes, but Obama wants to RAISE taxes for the middle-classes.Another difference is that Obama has repeatedly called for a balanced approach, which means cutting spending but also raising taxes. Romney wants to lower taxes over all.

there are not many similarities but both sides want to lower the countries debt but when Obama was in the chair he doubled the countries debt.

If I were able to vote i would vote for Romney because he wants to lower the debt and lower taxes. If anyone will help us out of debt a business-man will.

I THINK OBAMA DID AN OK JOB BUT NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR ANOTHER 4 YEARS. They both say things like they will get us out of debt but obama hasnt done it.

  44. both of the presidents want to recreat the economy, but, they have different viewpionts on how to do it. for example, Obama believes the best way to do this is by placing higher taxes on the wealthier people in the society, Romney however, believes that it would be much better if the rich payed less. i believe however Obama should stay president, i think his ideas are a better benifit and he also was able to stop the war in Iraq. Obama might not be able to do all he promises, but its still a good idea to have him as president.

  45. i disegree with ZaynLover117, mitt Romneys speeches are not all that truthful and i also think that Obama being in an election has nothing to do with anything, so what hes done it before, Romney is doing plenty fine bashing him as much as Obamas bashing Romney.

  46. 1.both Obama and Romney want to make people feel that they want to lower taxes for people.they also say that they want to create more jobs for america.
2.the candidates are both different in there points of view, Obama wants to support Obama care but Romney says he wants to repeal all the benefits of Obama care.

If i could vote i would want to vote for Barack Obama because i feel like women should have more rights and i feel that Romney would have employers, insurance company and positions limit women health issues.

  47. My vote would be for Romney. I think this because I disagree with Obamacare. Romney and Obama have such difference in opinions on Healthcare. I think Obamacare is bad for our country because it will raise our taxes by $500 billion dollars to pay for it. This also results in cutting Medicare by $500 billion dollars. Obama feels that everyone is entitled to healthcare but they all don't have to pay for it, which means the cost gets absorbed somehow buy taxes going up and healthcare rates going up. Romney has promised the first thing he will do if elected is end Obamacare and push healthcare back to each state making each state responsible for healthcare and also keeping Medicare.

  50. Obama and Romney have very different opinions on how we should manage our economy. Obama wants to tax the rich and the middle class and spend it on programs that help build our economy. Romney beleives that if we reduce taxes our economy will slowly grow and allow small business owners to grow their businesses and create new jobs. Obama and Romney view our economey very differently.

  51. Yes, Obama and Romney do have some things in common. In the 3rd presidential debate they talked about foreign affairs. The candidates are almost exactly the same in how they want to deal with other countries. For example they both agreed eachother nearly every time Israel was brought up in the 3rd debate.

  53. If i could vote i would vote for Romney. Last election i wasnt sure but i am not happy with what Obama has done over the last four years. Im not sure about the facts but im seeing a lot more numbers talking about very high unemployment rates. Obama has tried his plan and i dont think that it has improved Americas economy. I think that if Romney does what he says he will then Americas economy will grow. Romney wants to reduce taxes for the rich and the middle class so that people can spend more money on their businesses which will make their businesses bigger and make more job openings which in turn will make new jobs and make a stronger economy.
